Jason Giambi talks about playing baseball with the New York Yankees and returning to the Oakland A’s

Baseball might be talking about Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez, but what about Jason Giambi who spoke exclusively to JOCKlife.com to discuss baseball and wearing the A's uniform once again.

In an exclusive one-on-one interview with JOCKlife.com, Giambi talks about playing baseball with the Oakland Athletics again and his time with the New York Yankees.

Giambi returned back to the bay, to the team he started his major league career with; the Athletics. Giambi who enjoyed ever moment he spent with the Yankees is pumped to be back home and in a familiar area where he grew.

“It’s fun to come back to Oakland and hang out and play some good baseball.” Giambi who initially played for Oakland from 1995 to 2001 before moving east to the Big Apple feels like he is a big kid happy to come back home.

“It’s incredible! It’s like you went off to college and now come back to mom and dad’s house. I grew up in Oakland and as a young player got a chance to really develop, had great times in New York as well.”

Oakland’s obviously different compared to New York. It’s a smaller market, a different team, but with Giambi and other additions like Orlando Cabrera, Matt Holliday and Nomar Garciaparra, the former Yankees slugger thinks the team can make some noise this year.

“The great thing about Oakland is that we have rebuilt,” Giambi said. “We’re added veteran players so we should be really good this year.”

Unlike his time with the Yankees, Giambi’s return to a familiar place should be a lot less stressful compare to the expectations he had while playing with the Yankees. Though the pressure to success gets to everyone who joins the Yankees, most players want to play for the team in pin stripes for the experience of being a Yankee and winning something.

“I think that’s why you go to New York. Every year, you have an opportunity to win a World Series. Mr. Steinbrenner puts a great team on the field, and New York has great media, great fan support, it feels like you got to win all the time.”

Apart from adding some veteran hitters, Giambi feels the A’s can also do great with their pitching staff this season. He is very optimistic about his team’s chances this year, but who wouldn’t be.

“It’s going to be great this year; we got some young pitchers with a great learning curve. I think we are going to be a really good ball club."
