New York Yankees reliever Mariano Rivera feels fine after facing live batters

TAMPA, Fla. -- Yankees closer Mariano Rivera said he felt fine after facing hitters in a batting practice throwing session on Wednesday. Working on a back field before about two dozen onlookers at the Yankees' spring training complex, Rivera said his surgically repaired right shoulder felt normal.

"It's getting stronger," Rivera said. "Every time I throw, it gets better and better."

Rivera, 39, said he threw at about 90 percent and still needs to sharpen his pitching, though his physical rehabilitation is on track with what he expected after surgery.

"This is what the doctor told me and I think he was right on the nail," Rivera said.

The pitcher expects to throw another live batting practice session on Saturday. Whether Rivera pitches in a game next week will depend on how he comes out of that session.

Fellow reliever Edwar Ramirez also faced live hitters. He is trying to bounce back from shoulder bursitis that shut him down earlier in camp.
