Alex Rodriguez, third baseman for the New York Yankees, has decided to have hip surgery after all after consulting with team officials and a Colorado-based specialist.
Dr. Marc Philippon will perform the initial procedure and it is estimated that the slugger will need 6-9 weeks to rehabilitate from the surgery.
This option is less invasive than the originally planned full labrum repair that has a recovery time of closer to four months.
While Phillipon expects Rodriguez to feel better after the operation, there is no guarantee that he will be able to finish the season and a second, more extensive procedure would be performed next fall.
